Submission Rules & Instructions

Updates have been made in our Rules & Instructions. Please carefully review this year's rules and instructions, as well as the guidelines for categorizing abstracts. The files can be found in the Downloads section of this page.

Publication of Accepted Abstracts

All accepted abstracts will be published as a supplement to the Journal of Cystic Fibrosis (JCF). JCF will publish all accepted abstracts online on two websites: the JCF website and ScienceDirect (an Elsevier portal that delivers journal content to universities and institutions.) The abstracts will be numbered in a fully searchable PDF format.

Accepted Abstracts: Poster Presentation

All accepted poster presenters are required to register for NACFC. Accepted abstracts will be displayed in the onsite poster gallery in the Exhibit Hall.

Poster presenters are required to bring their printed poster(s) and set up on the assigned poster board no later than Thursday, October 23 by 9:00 a.m. PDT before the poster hall opens. Additionally, presenting authors must be present during the formal poster session scheduled on Friday, October 24. Odd-numbered poster presenters will be required to be next to their poster from 12:15 p.m. - 1:15 p.m. PDT and even-numbered poster presenters will be required to be next to their posters from 1:15 p.m. - 2:15 p.m. PDT. Additional details on the poster sessions will be included in the acceptance notification along with details on poster presentation, schedule, and eposter.

Accepted Abstracts: Oral Presentation

In addition to being presented in poster form, certain abstracts will be selected for oral presentation for one of the three specific session types described below. If an author's abstract is accepted for oral presentation, they will receive a notification with detailed instructions.

  • Workshop presentations: 2-hour interactive session; consists of five 15-minute presentations, each followed by 8 minutes of discussion.
  • Thematic Poster Sessions: Consist of two key parts: (1) poster presentations of abstracts focused on a central theme followed by a (2) moderated discussion that ties together ideas from multiple posters in the session.
  • Rapid Fire Poster Talks: 50-minute session; poster presenters will have 5 minutes to succinctly present the essence of their poster.
Best Abstract Awards for Junior Investigators

Junior investigators make many important contributions to CF research and are an integral part of the CF research community.  These investigators help to bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a drive for new knowledge, all while contributing to the growth of the research community and ensuring pipeline of future leaders in the field.  Each year the CF Foundation supports two Junior Investigator Competitions (Basic Science and Clinical Research) at the North American CF Conference to highlight abstracts by junior investigators in the field.  Junior Investigators who meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to submit abstracts for the competition.

For this competition, all abstracts submitted with a junior investigator identified as the presenting author are grouped into a basic science or clinical research category based on the discipline chosen by the submitting author. These abstracts are reviewed by a panel of expert judges, with the ten highest scoring abstracts selected to be judged during a poster session at the North American CF Conference.  The five highest scoring abstracts from that competition will be chosen for an oral presentation during the Junior Investigator Sessions at the conference.

First (presenting) authors of the abstract enrolled in a graduate program or, at the time of the conference, in a postdoctoral or clinical fellow position are eligible to participate in a competition for the (1) “Junior Investigator Best Abstract in Basic Science Award” or (2) “Junior Investigator Best Abstract in Clinical Research Award.”.  Additional information about eligibility will be provided on the abstract submission website.  If you would like to be considered for this competition and you meet eligibility criteria, select the appropriate option when submitting your abstract(s).  Please note that if selected, you must be present for the poster judging schedule on Thursday, October 23 from 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm.  Additionally, if selected to move forward for the final round of the competition, you must be present for the Junior Investigators session scheduled for Friday, October 24 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm.  Additional details will be provided in your status notification.
