This year's North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference (NACFC) will feature a wide variety of session formats. The below outlines for format of each session type.
NACFC 2019 Proposed Session Formats
Following are the general format and structure for each session type at the NACFC.
Symposium Session
Structure:
- 1 hour and 45 minute didactic sessions with opportunities for discussion
- Audience size typically ranges from 350-750 people
- A 5-minute introduction/overview by session chair(s)
- Four 20-minute presentations, each followed by 5 minutes of discussion
Workshop Session
Structure:
- 1 hour and 20 minute interactive sessions
- Audience size typically ranges from 150-450 people
- A 5-minute introduction/overview by session chair(s)
- Five 10-minute presentations, each followed by 5 minutes of discussion
Brown Bag Luncheon Sessions
Structure:
- 1 hour and 20 minutes in length
- Audience size generally ranges from 80-100 participants
- Designed to offer topics of current interest that cannot be covered in other larger sessions
Discipline Group Sessions
Structure:
- 2 hours in length
- Audience size normally ranges from 150-350 people, depending on the discipline
- Focus on areas of interest within specific caregiver discipline groups
Consultation Clinic Sessions
Structure:
- 1 hour and 15 minutes in length
- Audience size usually ranges from 80-100 participants
- Designed for presentation and discussion of problem cases in CF
- A 5-minute introduction by the session chair(s)
- Four 5-minute case presentations, each followed by 5 minutes of discussion
- A 30-minute group discussion at the end of the session
Submit a case summary for a Consultation Clinic.
Pediatric and Adult Fellows Sessions
Structure:
- 2 hours in length
- Audience size typically ranges from 200-400 people
- A 3-minute introduction by the chairs/facilitator
- Seven 10-minute presentations, each followed by 5 minutes of discussion
- 10-minute discussion at the end of the session
- 2-minute wrap up by the facilitator at the end of the session
Submit a case summary for a Fellows Session.
Physicians Grand Rounds Session
Structure:
- 2 hours in length
- Audience size normally averages 700-1,000 participants
- A 10-minute introduction by the session chair(s)
- Four 6-minute case presentations
- A 15-minute discussion at the end of each presentation by the expert discussant
- 26 minutes for audience open discussion
- Designed for presentation of difficult cases in CF
Submit a case summary for the Physicians Grand Rounds.
Roundtable Sessions
Structure:
- 1 hour and 20 minutes in length
- Audience includes nine participants and a facilitator at each table
- Multiple roundtable discussions conducted simultaneously on a wide variety of topics
- No formal presentation is involved
- Facilitator gives a short introduction and then facilitates the discussion
Short Course Session
Structure:
- 4 hours in length
- Audience typically ranges from 40-80 participants
Special Class Sessions
Structure:
- 8 hours in length
- Audience size ranges from 40-120 people
